A Guide to Writing a Good Marketing Strategy for Your Company

If you’re trying to run a business, you need to write out a marketing strategy. This will serve as a guideline to pricing and promoting products. The document should contain details about every action your company must take to face various challenges. Every possible angle should be considered, such as what your business will do if consumer trends change, or how to react if your competitors lower their prices.

Having it all laid out ahead of time will save your company a lot of money in the future. Always expect changes to occur, and when they do, have a marketing strategy ready for facing those changes. Creating a strategy doesn’t have to be difficult, providing you know exactly what your company stands amongst competition. If the statements within the plan are within the realm of possibility and reflect the current conditions of your company, then you’re doing a good job at writing it.

A marketing strategy should include the following:

  • A summary of your company and its goals
  • A list of products and/or services
  • Information about the targeted consumers
  • The appropriate marketing category (i.e.: high-end electronic supplies or plus size clothes)
  • The attributes of your products
  • Information about the distribution channels through which the products will be accessible
  • A description of research developments that are unique to your company
  • A realistic price range for each product, based on predictable market changes
  • An analysis of your company’s role in the industry

Even though this is a lot of information, you shouldn’t allow yourself to become discouraged. It’s better to get all the research and hard work out of the way now so that you’ll have reference material in the future. Your company can lose a lot of money if you don’t act quickly and immediately to market changes. For this reason, you need to have a market strategy prepared in advance.

Keep an eye on the strategy and make changes whenever you need to. However, it’s important to be as consistent as possible. If all is going well, you shouldn’t change anything. In fact, a marketing strategy shouldn’t be revised until all company objectives are met, OR the industry has changed significantly.
